The Interreg IT - CH VerdeVale project, in cooperation with the cities of Bolzano and Lugano, has developed a portal for citizens, which provides real-time information on the status of green areas in the city.
The municipal administration has now the ability to highlight the value of public green and how it contributes to a more resilient urban environment. Communicating with citizens about the environmental value of their city in a clear and immediate way is particularly important, at a time when strategies are needed to cope with increasingly frequent heat waves, droughts and extreme weather events.
On the Portal, citizens can interrogate all elements that constitute the Urban Green through the use of an interactive map. In addition to the species and age of trees and shrubs, information is provided on how the plants contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change through the calculation of CO2 sequestered, PM absorbed and energy saved. The data is constantly updated on a daily and annual basis, thanks to the daily use of the GreenSpaces platform by the municipality's green care and maintenance personnel.
